Acadia National Park
Trail/Landmark:Thunder Hole

Located in Acadia National Park the Thunder Hole is an inlet, carved out naturally by the ocean. Waves travel down a channel, and create pockets of air at the end. When the air is forced out it produces loud claps, as if of distant thunder. The sound is best when the tide is approaching. You may also be able to see a spout of water as high as 40 feet combined with this thunderous roar. This spot also provides a picturesque overlook of Otter Cliff and Sand Beach.

The Thunder Hole is located along the Acadia National Park, Park Loop Road. The Island Explorer Shuttle Bus provides pick up and drop off service to the area.
