What is the "Park Loop Road"?

The Acadia National Park Loop Road is a 27 mile-long scenic drive. The road offers a spectacular view of the island's coast and inlands. The loop begins at the Visitor Center in Hulls Cove, although it may be entered at many points along its course.

How long does the drive take?

It is possible to completely drive the loop in around an hour, but to really enjoy it allow around 3 hours or more. Parking areas near picturesque overlooks will encourage you to stay longer than you expect. There are also many trails around these overlooks that offer walks with unexpected, magnificent vistas not visible from the roadside.

What are some of the highlights of driving the Park Loop Road?

Is the Park Loop Road Open all Year Round?

No, the Park Loop Road closes with the first snowfall after Veterans' Day or the Monday after Thanksgiving, whichever comes first. The road reopens in mid-April.

Does it cost money?
