Take a Public Tour of the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory
The Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit, marine research institution founded in 1898.

The Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory is an independent, not-for-profit marine and biomedical research facility and an international center for comparative physiology, toxicology and marine functional genomic studies.

Weekly public tours begin June 29 and continue through August 24, rain or shine. Public tours are 1.5 hours long. Tours begin in the Maren Auditorium with a short video presentation and talk by an MDIBL investigator about the history of the Laboratory, and how marine species are important for biomedical research. Visitors get a hands-on experience in the Laboratory touch tank and viewing tanks.

The Laboratory is located in the village of Salisbury Cove, Maine, a small community wrapped around sheltered coves and wooded peninsulas on the northern edge of Mount Desert Island.
